Service overview
No jargon, no filler. Here's exactly what this service is, who benefits from it, and why we don't take shortcuts on it.
A new roof installation is a complete pitched-roof system fitted to a new build, extension, dormer, garage conversion, or a property being fully re-covered. It includes the timber structure where required, breathable membrane, counter-battens and battens, insulation upgrades, ridge and hip system, verge detailing, valleys, lead flashings, ventilation, and the final tile or slate covering.
New roof installations suit homeowners commissioning a build or major extension, landlords upgrading rental stock ahead of EPC changes, self-builders wanting a specification they can hand over with confidence, and developers who need a roof that will pass Building Control the first time.
You need a new installation when the existing roof has reached end of life (typically 60–100 years for clay, 40–60 for concrete), when a new-build or extension is being built, when structural repairs mean the existing covering can't be reused, or when insurance has declined further repair on an aged roof.
A new roof is one of the largest single investments in a property. The visible tiles are the easy part, it's the underlay laps, batten gauge, ventilation calculations, valley detailing and flashings that decide whether the roof lasts 20 years or 80. That's why our quotes are itemised, our surveys use drone photography, and every crew member is PASMA and IPAF trained.
What happens if it's ignored
The most expensive roofing decisions aren't the ones you make when you call us, they're the ones you make when you don't.
Once an ageing roof starts letting water past the underlay, the damage compounds: rafters rot, insulation compresses, plaster bulges, and rewiring costs climb. What began as a re-roof at £8–12k becomes structural work plus internal repairs at multiples of that.
Cut-price installations save money by dropping breathable membrane grade, reducing batten size, skipping tile clips, and using cement instead of dry-fixed ridges. It looks identical on day one, and starts failing in the first serious storm.
Modern insulation makes lofts warmer, but without correctly specified eaves and ridge ventilation, warm moist air condenses on the underside of the roof. The result is soaked insulation, black mould, and eventual timber decay, none of which shows from outside.
A roofline built by someone who isn't a specialist roofer is the single most common source of persistent leaks we're called to repair. Lead work at chimneys and valleys is the giveaway, it's the detail that separates a proper roof from a temporary one.
Our process
Step 1
We fly a drone across the entire roof, ridge, valleys, verges, flashings and gutter line, capturing high-resolution photography. No ladders leaning against your walls, no guesswork, no call-out fee.
Step 2
You receive a written report with annotated photographs showing exactly what we've found: the condition, the cause, and the specific work required to fix it properly rather than paper over it.
Step 3
An itemised written quote, materials, labour, access, waste removal, VAT, with clear deposit terms. Domestic jobs under £2,000 need no deposit. Stage payments available on larger projects.
Step 4
Lyndon and the four-man crew arrive on time, protect your driveway and garden, work to PASMA/IPAF safe-access standards, and leave the site clean each evening. All workmanship is guaranteed.
Step 5
Once the job is complete we walk the property with you, share drone photography of the finished work, and provide a workmanship guarantee in writing. Your invoice is emailed the same day.
Why Coventry chooses us
Specified with premium tiles, breathable membrane and correctly gauged battens | a Morgan roof is built to a lifespan measured in decades, not warranty years.
We upgrade insulation and ventilation as part of the install. Customers routinely report a warmer upstairs and lower heating bills through the first winter.
PASMA and IPAF trained crew, edge protection, driveway matting and daily clean-down. Your property is left tidy every evening, not just at the end of the job.
You know exactly what you're paying for: materials, labour, access, skip hire, VAT. No surprise 'extras' halfway through the job.
Lyndon is on site or a phone call away every day. The same four tradesmen see the job from strip to sign-off, no subcontracting.
Workmanship is guaranteed in writing on completion. If anything isn't right, we come back and put it right.
Deep detail
The specifics that separate a roof built to last from one built to invoice. Read it or skim it, either way, it's the answer to "what actually goes on my roof?"
We fit clay tiles (Redland, Marley, Sandtoft, Dreadnought), concrete tiles (Marley Modern, Redland Cambrian and 49), natural and fibre-cement slate (Welsh, Spanish, Cembrit), and interlocking pantiles. All coverings are laid over a graded breathable underlay (Klober, Cromar or equivalent), pressure-treated battens graded to BS 5534, and dry-fix ridge, verge and hip systems where the specification calls for it.
Every installation follows BS 5534:2014+A2:2018 for pitched roof slating and tiling. Tile clips are specified per exposure zone (Coventry sits in zone 2–3 for wind exposure). Valleys are lined in code 4 or 5 lead or GRP where lead theft is a concern. Ridges are dry-fixed as standard, no cement bedding to fail in five years. Underlay laps are 150mm horizontal, 100mm vertical, sealed at abutments.
Full pitched-roof installations, dormer roofs, gable-end and hip conversions, roof-lift extensions, mansard reinstatements, cold and warm roof insulation build-ups, and roofs incorporating Velux or Fakro roof-lights. We also detail lead flashings around chimneys, side abutments, box gutters and back gutters as part of the install.
New-build houses, single and double-storey extensions, garage conversions with habitable rooms, hip-to-gable loft conversions, and full re-covers where the timber structure is sound. If the existing rafters need strengthening, we co-ordinate with your builder or structural engineer.

Every roof is priced individually because pitch, size, access, tile choice and any structural work all affect the total. As a rough guide, a typical semi-detached re-cover in Coventry starts in the £7,000–£12,000 range including scaffold, materials, labour and VAT. Your written quote is itemised so you can see exactly where the money goes.
A standard three-bedroom semi typically takes 5–8 working days from scaffold up to scaffold down, weather permitting. Larger detached properties can run 10–15 days. We give you a start date and a target completion date in writing before the job begins.
Free drone survey, written report, itemised quote, agreed start date, strip and installation over 5–15 days, final walk-round with photography, and a written workmanship guarantee. Domestic jobs under £2,000 need no deposit; jobs over £2,000 require a deposit with stage payments on larger projects.
Yes. All workmanship is guaranteed in writing, and manufacturer warranties on the tiles and membrane (typically 30–40 years) are registered in your name. We're Which? Trusted Traders, Checkatrade members and SafeContractor accredited.
Concrete tiles are typically 40–60 years, clay tiles 60–100 years, and natural slate 80–100+ years. Ridge, verge and underlay elements are matched to that lifespan so no single component fails 20 years before the rest.
Yes. If your existing roof is actively leaking while you decide on a full installation, we can carry out an emergency make-safe or tarping visit, usually same-day for genuine emergencies, otherwise next-day. That cost is credited back if you proceed with the full installation.

A re-roof (or roof replacement) means stripping the entire existing covering back to the rafters, upgrading breathable membrane, batten and insulation, then re-covering with new or reclaimed tiles or slates. Unlike a repair, it addresses the underlying underlay and batten failure that causes most 'chronic leak' properties.

A flat roof is any roof pitched below 10°, extensions, garages, dormers, porches, bay windows, single-storey commercial buildings. We install and replace flat roofs in two main systems: EPDM synthetic rubber and high-performance torch-on felt. Each has a place; the right choice depends on span, foot traffic, drainage and budget.

Lead work is the traditional, hand-formed metal detailing at every point on the roof where two surfaces meet, chimney stacks, side abutments to walls, valleys between roof slopes, box gutters, dormer cheeks and heads, parapet cappings, and window heads. Code 4, code 5 and code 6 lead sheet is cut, dressed and welded on site to create a watertight, 50+ year seal.
